Protecting Oak Creek Preserve
I began my activism during the COVID lockdowns, searching for answers to how officials could take away my right to live freely. That quest launched a journey to understand who holds power and how they came to be there -- a journey I am still on today.
My name is Heidi, and I’ve lived in Irvine since 1979. Although the lockdowns eventually ended, the bureaucratic power plays did not. In the summer of 2025, the Irvine Company, in lockstep with the City of Irvine, proposed turning our cherished Oak Creek Preserve into 3,100 homes. After months of fruitless pleading with the city, the inevitable came to pass.
